SUMMARY:
Independently performs a variety of complex paralegal duties with limited supervision and has a solid understanding of complex legal issues. Assist attorneys in all aspects of legal case preparation and file management including moderate to advanced legal research, drafting routine to complex documents and collection of information relevant to cases. Conduct investigations through personal interviews. Review and analyze various reports, responses and records. Determine scope, direction and depth of legal research on assigned projects. May prepare case summaries, medical record summaries, pleadings, discovery responses, affidavits and other legal documents
PRIMARY DUTIES:
-Provide primary oversight of Claim Legal's review of and response to non-party subpoenas and other official regulatory/legal demands for claim-related information.
-Conduct moderate to complex legal research and analyze law sources such as statutes, recorded judicial decisions, legal articles, treaties, constitutions and legal codes to prepare legal documents such as briefs, pleadings, appeals, etc. for use by attorney.
-Draft routine or complex legal documents for review and use by attorneys.
-Prepare exhibits and other demonstrative evidence for use at trial.
-Categorize and interpret data; review and analyze reports, responses and records produced by opposing counsel.
-Coordinate requests between multiple parties involved in litigation by way of consistent communication with client, claims and full partnership with attorney through end of case.
-Assist attorneys in preparation of witnesses for deposition and/or trial.
-Participate in special administrative and legal research projects as requested.
EDUCATION/COURSE OF STUDY:
-Associate's Degree required; Bachelor's Degree strongly preferred.
-Advanced knowledge of Medical Terminology.
WORK EXPERIENCE:
-Minimum 7 years experience as a Paralegal or Legal Assistant required, with litigation experience strongly preferred.
CERTIFICATES/DEGREES:
-Paralegal Certificate from an ABA-certified program required.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS:
Must have superior interpersonal skills to conduct interviews and investigations and communicate with other attorneys, judges and court personnel.
OTHER:
-Superior grammar and writing skills
-Knowledge of law office procedures and local court/jurisdiction rules and procedures
-Resourceful research and analytical skills
-Professional demeanor and appearance
-Professional and courteous interpersonal skills
-Proficient in Microsoft Word
-Proficient in Westlaw and Lexus Nexus online research.
-Experienced with Microsoft Outlook and Excel
-Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment
-Ability to manage time and tasks effectively
-Able to maintain strict confidentiality
